Welcome to the world of acrostics! An acrostic, also called a crostic or double crostic, is a cousin of crossword puzzles, with clues and answers whose letters are rearranged to form a quote from a famous (or not-so-famous) author. If youre familiar with acrostics, you will quickly see how convenient they are on the iPhone, because letters are automatically copied to the correct place as you type them in.
Crostix, the online library of acrostic puzzles, is now available for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. It includes 150 puzzles, from easy to fiendishly hard, and you can buy more puzzles right in the application. For free sample puzzles, download the aptly-named Crostix Free.
The program has all the features youd expect:
- get hints for a single letter or an entire word,
- see your score, based on how many hints you needed,
- change the font size by pinching,
- rotate the device as you like, and
- get help on all program options.

I love crostics and this app is definitely one of my favourites. Its easy to use and quick to get the hang of. I just wish there were new puzzles to download because Im quickly running out!
Very enjoyable and entertaining. Quotes are derived from a wide variety of references. The automatic transfer of letters between clues and grid is seamless, more enjoyable than the pen-and-pencil variety. I re-did all the puzzles one year later and they were still fun. Thanks!
This is a great game which quickly becomes addictive. I only wish there were more available at the beginner level, as Im nearly finished.

Some bad moments
I love Crostix but whats up with book 5? I cant seem to be able to buy it!
Bought the new books, and App Store shows theyve been purchased. But in the app, trying to open Book 10 or 11, get an error message saying the app is waiting for data. Waste of money.
I paid for the Crostix Big Book a couple of years ago. Today I was sent an app update to "fix" bugs. Well she fixed me! Though I already bought it, my completed puzzles show blank. Then the HELP button told me to press "buy it" and it would not charge me since I previously purchased it. But it did charge me. I want my $1.99 back AND my completed puzzles. What a mess. Dont buy this. It was crashing a lot!!!!!
While I really enjoy anacrostic puzzles this apps in game purchase feature does not work. I have already done the first nine books ad nauseum and am frustrated that I cannot buy the latest two books
Ive had this app for some time, and I had loved it. However, I just got two puzzles in a row that were offensive--one used the word "Chinaman" and the second had a quotation on the topic of whether "Gypsies" could ever be honest. Extraordinarily offensive; Im deleting this app immediately and encourage others to do likewise. I can, and will, get my word puzzle fun elsewhere.
